 ‘Anaglypta’ triptych & 9 Delphi Etchings (15 X 15 cm.)

The 3 part painting ‘Anaglypta’ and the 9 Etching Composition study are interpretations of the carved friezes of the Siphnian Treasury housed at

the Archeological Museum of Delphi. What started as an examination of the construction of this relief work ended up being translated into an

exercise in the medium of copper-plate etching. The technique of etching is effectively an accelerated erosion and has a certain affinity with the

natural erosion of the ancient friezes. The study of the rhythms within the composition of the friezes was a way into organising the elements of

a triptych painting. The look of the painting was always intended to suggest the format of a ‘frieze’, the colours are muted to enhance its formal aspect.
